“My Career is So Managed!” – said no one ever!
MYOB: MANAGE YOUR OWN BUSINESS The ebook will be available soon! Click here to get on the list.
Created by former Hollywood Talent Agent Mr. Brick, Manage Your Own Business (MYOB) is a step-by-step recipe book to successfully manage your own business, career, life, or relationships.
The same recipe that helped launch many successful careers in the entertainment industry will also work to help you manage products, services, your career, or the career of others.
Helping Others, Helps You More.
You can build a great life by helping others achieve their dreams. It’s like becoming a doctor without having to get a medical degree.
So, maybe it’s NOT like that, but you get the idea.
Using your talents and skills to help someone achieve their dreams is a win for humanity. We are all on this planet to serve others. Did you hear that is is better to give than receive? It’s true!
A simple gesture of helping others.
I once found an old, brown, leather wallet on a park bench. My friend Caitlin tracked down the person and returned the wallet to the owner.
Imagine someone actually returning a lost item to you not only with all of your credit cards and documents still inside but with more money inside than when it was lost! That kind gesture will not only be a lasting impression on the person who lost the wallet, but also on me. Acts of kindness have a ripple effect.
Mr. Brick’s Fun Fact:
A recent “lost wallet” study revealed that on average, 40% of people finding cashless wallets reported them, compared with 51% of people founding wallets with money!
Honesty is always the best policy.
It’s no coincidence that Caitlin’s businesses are flourishing. Her honesty at every level is being rewarded.
If Bill Gates started Microsoft in 2020, What would he do differently than he did in 1975?
He would create a fun logo for Microsoft that could be licensed. Many people, even one of the richest men on the planet, forgot to do this when he started the company that now employees 148,465 people worldwide.
Don’t Be Like Bill! Please…don’t be like Bill.
Create a Great Logo
A creative logo can create an extra revenue stream for you by licensing it. Make sure your fonts and colors help tell the story of your brand.
Here are 2 logos that were designed to help brand companies that are part of Mr. Brick’s Family of Companies.
Passive Income Alert!
The successful people I work with make more money when they sleep and when they are on vacation than when they are actually working. Yep. Reread that.
Have you lost your mind, Mr. Brick? How is that even possible? Don’t you have to work your butt off for 40 hours to get a paycheck?
No, you don’t.
We will show you how you can leverage your work and time to create a passive income no matter what industry you are in. This does mean you can make money while you sleep.
Remember how we said it is very important to create a fun logo? Having a super fun logo and creating licensed products for everyday use will create a lucrative income stream that will pay you while you are on vacation, pay you will you are at the movies… or Mr. Brick’s favorite, pay you to eat chili cheese fries.
You can see how a fun logo can be put on a variety of apparel goods, home goods, or even the newly popular face masks There are so many places on the internet to set up your own merchandise store to sell your custom merchandise. These virtual stores are open 24/7 and so yes, even when you are eating chili-cheese fries or dreaming of chili-cheese fries you can be making money as a rockstar does.
And it doesn’t stop with simple items. The $262.9 billion world of licensing is open to any and all creative designs. Who knows, maybe someday you will play Hollywood Rats! the video game where I licensed my logo to some a NASA rocket scientist smartypants who coded his or her way to fame with a popular video game about a pack of rats from Hollywood eating, I dunno… maybe chili-cheese fries?
Mr. Brick’s Fun Fact:
According to Global Magazine, the leading licensing industry magazine, “A total of 56 global licensors reported retail sales of $1 billion or more and represent $235 billion in retail sales–or 90 percent–of the total retail sales reported by the Top 150 licensors.”
Write A Good Business Plan!
Having a well-written business plan is like having a GPS printout for all of the Chick-Fil-a stores before you start on a cross country road trip.
So, OK, maybe that is NOT a priority, but having a printout of all of the CFA’s along the route is not something Mr. Brick would ever say no to. Just Sayin’
But you would want to use your GPS to make sure you get to where you wanted to go, wouldn’t you? Yes, of course, you would. So, get started writing your business plan, now!
Meet Lorene and Monica.
This mother-daughter duo of Monica and Lorene had an idea of writing a children’s book on civility. They had that idea for 20 years but didn’t know where to start. They called Mr. Brick to help. Within 3 1/2 months their book, Sarah Elizabeth Plans A Tea Party, was on store shelves!
In 2019 more than 1.5 million self-published books were put into circulation.
Ava Aston is a recording artist/songwriter/actress from New York City.
Mr. Brick developed a complete 25-page *dossier for Ava to help synchronize branding in all areas of her entertainment career.
*A dossier is like a cookbook filled with specific recipes for you to follow to make the perfect career.
Mr. Brick’s Fun Fact:
You can store up to 25,000 songs in your iTunes music library.
“Your TALENT makes you who you are. You should be PROUD of it”– WALT DISNEY
Mr. Brick’s Fun Fact:
The Magic Kingdom in Disney World opened in Orlando, Florida in 1971. The entire Disney property covers nearly 25,000 acres (39 sq miles) which only 1/2 of that is currently being used.
Disney World and Universal Studios Florida use thousands of contract employees each year. What are your talents?
One of those independent contractor performers is Billy Scadlock. Billy works as a freelance entertainer based in Orlando. In 1978 Billy started his career as a Clown with Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus at their Orlando based theme park, Circus World.
Although Circus World closed in 1986, Because of having solid marketing and a great business plan Billy Scadlock has worked steadily with Disney, Universal, and with all of the other Orlando area theme parks and attractions for 40+ years. He is frequently flown all over the world to help promote the various Orlando area attractions. Billy is doing what he loves to do. So can you!
You Want to Be a RockStar in Another Field?
Is it possible to take these same recipes that Mr. Brick uses and apply them to everyday careers that are NOT in the spotlight? You bet it is. Let’s see how…
Bill Weld is a successful contractor in Winter Park, Florida. His eye for detail has made him a much sought after custom remodeler on high-end real estate properties. But, Weld wanted a bigger piece of the lucrative remodeling pie.
After applying Mr. Brick’s success strategy recipes to his remodeling business Bill Weld has seen his success skyrocket. Specifically, he applied “The Magic of You” secret ingredient.
When it is applied with the other ingredients to any business, in any industry it will make that business stand out among its competitors to become a Rockstar in that industry, no matter what it is.
From Roadie To Actual Rock Star!
Mr. Brick’s Fun Fact:
Before forming Nirvana with Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic was a Roadie for the punk band, Melvins.
It’s okay to want to fill Madison Square Garden on a sold-out concert with your own band… but be prepared to haul some equipment for another band to possibly help get your foot in the door. Maybe someday they will let your band be their opening act.
Lean On Me!
As the song goes, “We all need to lean on somebody. So… lean on me.” It is true, we do need to lean on someone else from time to time. It’s okay. As long as it doesn’t become a crutch and your need turns into a clingy Saran Wrap kind of need.
The best way to get help when you need it is to call upon those who you have helped out in the past. This is a practice called emotional banking.
It’s EXACTLY like when you go to the bank and want to make a withdraw. Unless you had made a deposit in advance, there’s nothing to withdraw.
The best way to get into a new industry is by helping someone else out. It serves several purposes. First off, you get to hang with someone in an industry you want to be a part of. It’s always good to know someone on the inside.
Start your dream small, Humble yourself. There is a saying in the entertainment industry, “There are no small parts, only small actors.” Every role in a movie or film is important. You can not wake up in the morning in Walla Walla, Washington, and expect to cast as the lead in James Marsh’s next Academy Award Winning movie. It doesn’t work that way.
Be a sponge soak it all up. Learn everything you can.
Never Stop Learning!
It’s never too late to learn something new. Mr. Brick went back to college at the age of 50 to get a degree in Graphic Design to publish his very own line of Hollywood Rats! children’s books.
Mr. Brick’s Fun Fact:
Certificate holders earn 37% more than works with a high school degree.
Because you are interested in a career in an artistic or creative industry a traditional four-year college may not be the right thing for you. So you can perhaps pop into a certificate degree program to learn the basics of that industry. It will help you learn a skill that you can use to pay the bills while you are pursuing your dream, without wasting four years and hundreds of thousands of dollars on a typical college education.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you it’s too late to do something you want to do.
Seriously… don’t. You should never give anyone that much power over your life.
Nola Ochs – a Guinness record holder as the world’s oldest college graduate at the age of 95. She saw his age as an opportunity, not a barrier to take on new challenges and satisfy unfulfilled goals. Born in 1911 in Illinois, Nola always loved learning.
I’ll say this again… Don’t ever let anyone tell you it’s too late to do something you want to do.
You’ve Got This!
Start building confidence around your skills and talents by showing them off to others.
This is a hint of what is possible if you follow this recipe to success with Manage Your Own Business. We’ve only listed 5 ingredients. It’s possible to become a success without the additional ingredients, but it will take you longer to find out what works and what doesn’t work.

I believe in you.
If being in the spotlight is not your jam, you can apply all of these recipes to help manage a creative or artistic family member or friend. A garage band needs someone to help them so they can focus on their music. A photographer might need you to manage their social media while they are out on-location filming. All creative and artistic people need someone like you to help promote them. Someone to be their biggest cheerleader in good times and bad times.
Everyone has their go-to best friend. That one person that tells them not to wear plaid with stripes, the one who tells you that can do better than that new crush you found online at Write-a-Prisoner.com.
Thelma had Lousie
Ren had Stimpy
Batman had Robin
Beavis had Butthead
Wayne had Garth
… Oprah had Gayle
If you are not spotlight bound but you have a talented friend, then you can use these same recipes for success to help your BFF become a rockstar in their chosen industry. If you BFF is someone you idolize from afar or is the object of your fan crush, then you can perhaps become their Virtual Assistant (VA for short.)
In the last few years, Corporate downsizing and the whole Work At Home movement have spawned the VA movement. Although I went into an office on famed Sunset Boulevard during my years as a powerful Hollywood Talent agent, I was really a virtual assistant top red-carpet clients.
I loved it!
So will you.
