How To Get Free Heart Surgery

So, your ticker is about to give out and you really need it fixed, or you will die. What are you gonna do?

  1. Call Ghostbusters
  2.  Laugh
  3. Call a cardiologist

Disclaimer: I’m a blogger, not a doctor. If this is a real emergency please do not finish reading this blog. Turn off your computer and call 9-1-1.

You might be thinking that this was a blog about how to manage your own business, career or relationship… and it is. But first I must make a point.

If you were really in need of heart surgery would you expect a cardiologist to volunteer their services to help you? Can I hear a Hell no to that!  Even if it was a new doctor straight out of medical school they aren’t going to volunteer their services to try and build a name for themself.

What could be scarier to a patient in the middle of a heart arrhythmia than a freshly scrubbed doctor walking into your room saying, “Hello, I’m Dr. Brick! I’m a newbie cardiologist. I’ve never done this before, but I’d love the opportunity to try and help you. I need the experience.” Doogie Howser wasn’t ever that lame.

Here is a quick question:

Q. What is the difference between a  cardiologist and a self-employed entrepreneur?

A. Nothing. They both put on their pants one leg at a time.

If a cardiologist is not going to give you free service, even when they are a newbie, why should you? There is a better way to get new clients than giving away the farm to build your client list. You can perhaps give more products or services for a lower price (that’s called value.

“Value is the money worth of a PRODUCT or SERVICE.”

You might do a limited time offer to new clients to build your client base. However, under no circumstances should you ever give it away to get started. Like the new cardiologist, you have all of the training you did for what you do and all of your new computer equipment or trade tools that you need to pay for.

Sorry for the misleading title of this post but I wanted to get your attention. As you build your own business or career remember the golden rules  of business:

  1. There is no such thing as a free lunch (I’m all about a good discounted lunch)
  2. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t true. (#word)
  3. You get what you pay for (Buyer beware)
  4. Nothing good happens past midnight (Nana Brick taught me this)

You have a few more days to enroll in the Work You Way 20202 summit. You can read all about it in my post called, The Climb.

Have a great day!
