If you don’t know the difference between hashbrowns and hashtags, put down your Sony walkman, drop your Hacky Sack and Koosh Balls and listen to Mr. Brick. This isn’t still the 1980’s. Yes, you can take off those parachute pants and that jacket with the huge shoulder pads. Not flattering.
I get that Nana Brick went to her grave not fully understanding what a hashtag was, but man… in full disclosure she did she make some amazing cheesy hashbrowns! I remember one day she called me and said that my latest email to her had a typo (no big surprise there, right?) Nana Brick told me that I had accidentally put pound signs in front of some of my words over and over again. I laughed and said, “Nana, that’s a hashtag, not the pound sign.” No matter how much I tried to explain the concept of using hashtags Nana didn’t understand what I meant. Another not so big surprise is that I didn’t even begin to mention SEO to her. Mind blown!
Simply put, Wikipedia describes hashbrowns as:
Hash browns or hashed browns are a simple and popular American breakfast dish in which potatoes are pan-fried after being shredded, diced, julienned or riced, in the style of a Swiss Rösti.
Simply put, Wikipedia describes a hashtag as:
A hashtag, introduced by the number sign, or hash symbol, #, is a type of metadata tag used on social networks such as Twitter and other microblogging services. It lets users apply dynamic, user-generated tagging that helps other users easily find messages with a specific theme or content.
Hashtags are so vital in promoting a brand that cottage
cheese industries have been created just mining the best and most popular hashtags of the last 24 hours, the last week, the last month and of all time. You can find my favorite hashtag site by clicking here.
Back in my snarky days, I wrote a funny blog post (well, I thought it was funny) about hashtags that should be banned. You can relive my 2014 shenanigans by reading that post here.
To successfully get attention in the digitally cluttered world you MUST know the difference between hashbrowns and Hashtags, and now you do. You’re welcome!
Thank you for stopping by. Have a great day!
