As a living, human being, I was appalled at what happened in Paris, France today at the offices of French satirical news magazine, Charlie Hebdo. As a cartoonist, I am even angrier because this was all about trying to stifle the freedom of speech. I could not even imagine if someone told me that I could not release one of my, “The Rat Pack of Hollywood” cartoons because it might have offended a particular religion or ethnic group. Humor is humor.
We all need to roll with the punches a little more, and not be so politically correct. I am thrilled that the publishers and editors of the Charlie Hebdo magazine for not kowtowing to previous threats. I am only saddened that that they, as a company, and France as a nation has been subjected to the terrorism that is trying to rid our world of the freedom of expression. Sorry, Charlie… it isn’t going to work.
All of hearts are a little bit heavier today.
